A Special Launch in Scheveningen: ‘Jaap Pronk’

Recently, we were in the harbour of Scheveningen for a moment that went far beyond shipbuilding. The christening of the vessel ‘Jaap Pronk’ was not just the launch of a new KNRM vessel. It was the beginning of a story. A tribute to a man whose legacy continues to resonate in the community he served and the organisation he helped shape.

Jaap Pronk was a well-known and deeply respected figure within the KNRM and the coastal community around Scheveningen. His long-standing dedication to saving lives at sea left a powerful mark, and naming this vessel after him is a meaningful and lasting gesture. The event brought together his family, KNRM volunteers, colleagues and friends, all gathered to honour a name that stands for courage, service and commitment.

For us at Stormer, it was an emotional and humbling moment. We believe that every vessel we build carries more than aluminium, propulsion and technology. It carries meaning. It supports real people doing real work in challenging conditions. And sometimes, it carries a legacy, as the ‘Jaap Pronk’ so clearly does.

This launch also marked an important milestone for Stormer Workboats. The ‘Jaap Pronk’ is the first vessel completed at our new facility in Harderwijk. A moment of transition and growth for our team as we look ahead to building more vessels of the Chaterina D class for the KNRM in the coming period. Each one built with the same care, focus and purpose.

The ‘Jaap Pronk’ is more than just a vessel. It represents trust at sea, the value of craftsmanship and the spirit of those who dedicate their lives to protecting others on the water.
